Looking for work

Applying for a job

There are certain things you need to know before applying for a job. If you are not a UK citizen, for example, you'll need to know what rules and regulations apply to you in getting a job. If you want to come to the UK to work, whether you can do so depends on who you are. Unless you're a British citizen or a citizen of one of the European Economic Area (EEA) countries, or Switzerland, you may need a visa before you travel here. Find out whether or not you will need a visa and what restrictions may be placed upon that visa.

You'll also need to know what your rights are when it comes to job references, what obligations your employer has towards you and also what your rights are if you accept a job. You can find out more about these rights and obligations in our Employees' Rights section.
